railway platforms

Where passengers board

Railway platforms are the raised surfaces alongside tracks where passengers board and exit trains.

In British usage, platform often designates the track itself: The train now arriving at platform four.

American English prefers track for this sense.

Platforms may be covered or open, and typically feature benches, shelters, and departure information.
