radial tires
Perpendicular-ply wheels
Radial tires have internal cords running perpendicular to the direction of travel, radiating out from the center of the wheel.
This construction provides better road contact and longer tread life than bias-ply tires, where cords run diagonally.
Radials became standard on passenger vehicles by the 1980s: I need to replace my radials before winter.
