racial stereotypes

Biased group assumptions

Racial stereotypes are oversimplified, fixed ideas about people based on their race or ethnicity—assumptions that members of a group share particular traits, behaviors, or abilities.

These generalizations persist even when contradicted by evidence: The job interviewer couldn't see past racial stereotypes.

Stereotypes range from seemingly positive attributions (Asians are good at math) to overtly hostile ones, but all reduce individuals to group caricatures.
