racial stereotype

Biased group generalization

A racial stereotype is a generalized belief about members of a particular racial or ethnic group—that they share certain traits, behaviors, or abilities.

Stereotypes reduce individuals to assumptions based on group membership: The casting relied on tired racial stereotypes.

Even seemingly positive stereotypes (athletic ability, academic achievement) flatten individuality and can create harmful expectations.
