quadroon
One-fourth African ancestry
Quadroon is a now-obsolete term from the era of American slavery for a person of one-quarter African ancestry—typically someone with one Black grandparent.
The word belonged to a pseudo-scientific racial classification system that included octoroon (one-eighth Black) and mulatto (half Black).
These terms are offensive today, artifacts of a system obsessed with quantifying racial "purity" to determine legal status and social standing.
