pre-combustion
Prior to burning
Pre-combustion describes processes or technologies that occur before burning takes place, particularly in energy and carbon capture contexts.
Pre-combustion capture removes carbon dioxide from fuel before it's burned, rather than from exhaust gases afterward: The plant uses pre-combustion technology to reduce emissions.
The term contrasts with post-combustion approaches.
