poultices
Warm medicinal packs
Poultices are soft, moist masses of material applied to the body to relieve soreness, inflammation, or draw out infection.
Traditionally made from bread, clay, herbs, or mustard mixed with hot water, they're wrapped in cloth and pressed against the skin.
The practice is old-fashioned but persists in folk medicine: She applied a poultice to the boil.
