poppadom

Lentil flour disc

A poppadom is a thin, crisp Indian flatbread made from lentil or chickpea flour, typically served as an appetizer or side dish.

The discs are dried then fried or roasted until they puff and crisp.

They often accompany chutneys and are standard fare at Indian restaurants: We ordered poppadoms while we waited for our curry.

Also spelled papadum, papadam, and other variants.
