political divisions
Administrative boundary zones
Political divisions are the administrative units into which territory is organized for governance—countries, states, provinces, counties, municipalities.
The term also describes ideological rifts between opposing political factions: Political divisions in the country have deepened since the election.
Context usually makes clear whether geographic boundaries or partisan conflict is meant.
