plowland

Soil under cultivation

Plowland is land that has been or can be plowed for cultivation—arable farmland as opposed to pasture, forest, or waste.

The term appears in historical contexts, particularly in old land records and agricultural surveys: The estate included three hundred acres of plowland.

In medieval England, plowland was also a unit of land measurement.
