plot armor
Hero's narrative shield
Plot armor is the narrative immunity that protects fictional characters—especially protagonists—from death or serious harm despite dangerous situations.
The term is usually critical, pointing out implausible survival: The hero walked through a hail of bullets without a scratch—pure plot armor.
Characters survive not because it makes sense, but because the story needs them alive.
