platinum record
Major sales milestone
A platinum record is a music industry certification indicating that an album or single has sold a threshold number of copies—typically one million units in the United States.
The term refers both to the achievement and to the commemorative plaque awarded to artists: Their debut album went platinum within six months.
Higher tiers include double platinum, triple platinum, and so on.
