plastination

Polymer body preservation

Plastination is a preservation technique that replaces water and fat in biological tissue with durable plastics, producing specimens that don't decay and can be handled without gloves.

Developed in the 1970s, it's used in medical education and in traveling exhibitions of human bodies: The anatomy lab's plastinated organs last for decades.

The verb is plastinate.
