pitchpipe
Choir's starting note
A pitchpipe is a small wind instrument that sounds a single note, used to establish the starting pitch for singers or to tune other instruments.
Choir directors and a cappella groups use pitchpipes to get everyone on the same note before beginning: She blew the pitchpipe and the chorus came in on a perfect A.
