pilot seat
Where aviators sit
The pilot seat is the seat in an aircraft cockpit where the pilot sits to operate the controls.
In vehicles or vessels with similar configurations, the pilot seat is where the person in command sits: He slid into the pilot seat and began the preflight checklist.
The term sometimes appears figuratively for any position of control or leadership.
