picketed

Carried a sign

Picketed is the past tense of picket.

Workers picket when they stand outside a workplace during a strike, often carrying signs to discourage others from entering: The union picketed the factory for three weeks.

More broadly, to picket is to stand in protest outside any location.

A picket is also a pointed stake driven into the ground, so picketed can mean enclosed or secured with such stakes: The horses were picketed near the camp.
