photoallergy

Sun-induced skin reaction

Photoallergy is an allergic skin reaction triggered by exposure to light, typically sunlight, in combination with a sensitizing substance.

The substance—often a medication, sunscreen ingredient, or fragrance—becomes allergenic only when activated by ultraviolet light: She developed a photoallergy to her new antibiotic after spending time outdoors.

Distinguished from phototoxicity, which doesn't involve the immune system.
