permissionless
Open to all
Permissionless describes systems or actions that don't require authorization from a central authority.
The term emerged from cryptocurrency and blockchain discussions, where permissionless networks allow anyone to participate without approval: Bitcoin is permissionless—no bank or government controls who can use it.
The concept extends to other open systems: permissionless innovation, permissionless publishing.
The opposite is permissioned, where gatekeepers control access.
