gatekept

Restricted entry to

Gatekept is the past tense of gatekeep—to control access to something, deciding who gets in and who doesn't.

Originally literal (guards at gates), it now describes restricting entry to communities, professions, or cultural spaces: The industry was gatekept by a handful of executives.

In internet usage, gatekeeping often carries negative connotations of elitism or exclusion: She gatekept the fandom by quizzing newcomers on obscure trivia.
