Particle-board is an engineered wood product made from wood chips, sawdust, and resin pressed into sheets.
Cheaper and weaker than solid wood or plywood, it's common in budget furniture and shelving.
Particle-board swells and crumbles when wet: The cheap bookcase was just particle-board covered in veneer.
