lazy tongs
Extending scissor mechanism
Lazy tongs are a set of connected, crossing metal strips that form an expandable, scissor-like mechanism for grasping objects at a distance.
The zigzag framework extends and retracts while maintaining grip at the far end.
Originally designed to pick up items without bending or reaching, they now appear mostly as novelty toys: The kid grabbed my nose with his lazy tongs.
