overstrike
Print atop existing
Overstrike is a typographical technique where one character is printed over another, either to correct text or create composite symbols.
On typewriters, you might overstrike a letter with X to delete it, or combine characters to produce symbols the machine lacked.
In numismatics, an overstrike is a coin stamped over an existing coin, leaving traces of the original design beneath.
