overirrigation
Too much water
Overirrigation is the application of more water to crops or land than plants can use or soil can absorb.
It wastes water resources and can cause waterlogging, soil salinization, and nutrient runoff: Overirrigation has degraded farmland throughout the region.
The problem is common where water is cheap or farmers lack tools to measure soil moisture.
