overfiring
Too much heat
Overfiring is heating a kiln, furnace, or engine beyond optimal temperature.
In ceramics, overfiring causes glazes to run, colors to burn out, or pieces to warp and collapse: The bowl slumped because I overfired it.
In engines, overfiring means combustion occurring too frequently or intensely, potentially damaging components.
