pre-ignition
Combustion before spark
Pre-ignition is the premature combustion of fuel in an internal combustion engine—before the spark plug fires.
This causes knocking, loss of power, and potential engine damage.
The problem typically results from hot spots in the combustion chamber, low-octane fuel, or excessive compression.
The mechanic diagnosed the knocking as pre-ignition caused by carbon buildup.
