outlet box
Receptacle mounting container
An outlet box is a metal or plastic enclosure mounted inside a wall or ceiling where electrical wiring terminates and connects to switches, receptacles, or light fixtures.
The box protects connections from damage and contains sparks or heat if wiring fails.
Building codes require outlet boxes wherever wires exit walls: The electrician installed an outlet box for the new kitchen lights.
