grounding wire
Fault current path
A grounding wire is a conductor that provides a safe path for electrical current to flow to the earth in case of a fault or surge.
It protects against electric shock and fire by directing stray current away from people and equipment.
In household wiring, it's typically the bare copper or green-insulated wire connected to outlets and appliances: Make sure the grounding wire is attached to the metal box.
