ostracise

Cast someone out

Ostracise is the British spelling of ostracize—to exclude someone from a group or from society.

A person may be ostracised for violating social norms, holding unpopular views, or simply being different: After the scandal, she was ostracised by her colleagues.

The exclusion can be formal or informal, but the effect is deliberate isolation.
