open-loop
Without corrective adjustment
Open-loop describes a system or process that operates without feedback—it sends out a command or signal but doesn't check whether the desired result actually happened.
A basic sprinkler timer is open-loop: it runs for a set duration regardless of whether the lawn is already soaked.
The term contrasts with closed-loop systems, which monitor their output and adjust accordingly.
The open-loop design was cheaper but less precise.
