older-aged

Past middle years

Older-aged describes someone in the later stages of life, typically past middle age.

The term is slightly awkward—a bureaucratic or clinical alternative to simply saying *old* or *elderly*: programs for older-aged adults, older-aged workers face employment discrimination.

The compound hedges against the directness of *old*, which some consider impolite.
