old covenant
Pre-Christian divine pact
The old covenant is the agreement between God and the Israelites established through Moses, centered on the Law given at Sinai.
In Christian theology, it contrasts with the new covenant established through Jesus Christ.
The term appears primarily in religious contexts: The old covenant required animal sacrifice for atonement.
Also called the Mosaic covenant.
