off-gridder
Self-sufficient homesteader
An off-gridder is someone who lives independently of public utilities—especially electricity, water, and sewage systems.
The term suggests self-sufficiency through solar panels, wells, composting toilets, and similar arrangements.
Off-gridders may be motivated by environmental concerns, survivalist philosophy, or simply a desire for independence: The off-gridders we met generated all their own power.
