oast

Brewery heating chamber

An oast is a kiln for drying hops or malt, traditionally a conical or pyramidal structure with a distinctive pointed roof and cowl for ventilation.

Oast houses dot the English countryside, especially in Kent, where hop-growing was once widespread.

Many have been converted to residences: They bought a converted oast house in the Weald.
