nonmodern
Before current times
Nonmodern describes things that don't belong to or reflect the modern era—its technologies, values, or ways of thinking.
The term often appears in academic contexts distinguishing traditional, premodern, or indigenous societies from modern Western ones: nonmodern cultures, nonmodern knowledge systems.
Unlike *antimodern*, it's neutral rather than oppositional.
