nonfungible
Uniquely itself, unreplaceable
Nonfungible describes something that cannot be exchanged for an identical equivalent.
A dollar bill is fungible—any dollar works the same as another.
But a painting, a deed to a specific property, or a digital token tied to unique metadata is nonfungible: Each NFT is nonfungible, representing ownership of a particular digital asset.
The term gained wide currency with the rise of cryptocurrency and digital collectibles.
