new moons

Sky's invisible phase

New moons are the lunar phase when the moon lies between Earth and the sun, making it invisible or barely visible from Earth.

The term also refers to the thin crescent that appears shortly after this phase: The Islamic calendar begins each month with the sighting of the new moon.

Figuratively, new moons suggest cycles, fresh starts, or darkness before renewal.
