native grasslands
Untouched wild pastures
Native grasslands are ecosystems dominated by grasses and other herbaceous plants that evolved naturally in a region, without human cultivation or introduction of foreign species.
They include prairies, steppes, savannas, and pampas.
These landscapes support diverse wildlife and are distinguished from pastures or lawns, which are planted and maintained: Less than one percent of North America's native grasslands remain intact.
