namespacing

Preventing naming collisions

Namespacing is the practice of organizing code, files, or identifiers into distinct containers to prevent naming conflicts.

When two programmers both create a function called "calculate," namespacing keeps them separate: The library uses namespacing to avoid colliding with your existing code.

The concept extends beyond programming to any system where identical names might clash—domain names, file directories, or database schemas.
