myofascia
Connective tissue surrounding muscles
Myofascia is the combination of muscle tissue (myo-) and the connective tissue that surrounds it (fascia).
The term treats muscle and its encasing sheath as a functional unit rather than separate structures.
Myofascial pain involves trigger points in this tissue: The therapist worked on myofascial release to relieve the tension in my shoulders.
