mycobacteria
Acid-fast rod organisms
Mycobacteria are a genus of rod-shaped bacteria with distinctive waxy cell walls that make them resistant to many antibiotics and difficult to stain in laboratory tests.
The group includes species responsible for tuberculosis and leprosy, as well as environmental species found in soil and water that can cause opportunistic infections.
The patient tested positive for mycobacteria.
