nonmotile

Lacking locomotive ability

Nonmotile describes organisms or cells that cannot move on their own.

The term appears in biology to distinguish stationary life forms from those capable of self-propelled movement: nonmotile bacteria, nonmotile sperm.

Plants are nonmotile, as are many single-celled organisms that drift passively or remain fixed in place.
