mousedeer
Smallest hoofed mammal
A mousedeer is a chevrotain—a small, deerlike mammal native to Southeast Asian and African forests.
Despite the name, mousedeer are neither mice nor true deer but belong to their own ancient family.
They're among the smallest hoofed animals, some weighing just a few pounds.
In Southeast Asian folklore, the mousedeer often appears as a clever trickster figure.
