mountain wind

Ridge-born air current

A mountain wind is a downslope breeze that occurs at night when air near mountain slopes cools and becomes denser, flowing downward into valleys below.

The opposite of a valley wind, which rises during daytime heating.

Also called a katabatic wind or drainage wind.

The mountain wind brought a chill to the campsite after sunset.
