misgenders

Uses wrong pronouns

To misgender someone is to refer to them using a pronoun or form of address that doesn't match their gender identity—calling a transgender woman "he," for instance.

The term implies the speaker knows or should know better: The interviewer repeatedly misgendered the activist.

Misgendering may be careless or deliberately hostile.
