memorial museum

A memorial museum is a museum dedicated to preserving the memory of a specific tragedy, atrocity, or historically significant event—typically one involving mass death or suffering.

Unlike general history museums, memorial museums serve a commemorative function alongside education: the Holocaust Memorial Museum, the 9/11 Memorial Museum.

They often occupy sites connected to the events they document.
