megabat

Large fruit bat

Megabats are large fruit-eating bats found in tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, Asia, and Oceania.

Unlike microbats, they navigate primarily by sight rather than echolocation, giving them their distinctive large eyes.

The group includes flying foxes, some with wingspans exceeding five feet.

Despite the name, not all megabats are larger than all microbats.
