medieval squire
Armor-bearer in training
A medieval squire was a young man of noble birth serving as an attendant to a knight, typically as the final stage of training before knighthood.
Squires cared for their knight's armor and horses, accompanied them in battle, and learned combat and courtly skills.
The position usually began around age fourteen and lasted until the squire was dubbed a knight, often around twenty-one: The squire helped his master don armor before the tournament.
