medical leave
Doctor-ordered time off
Medical leave is time away from work granted to an employee for health-related reasons—recovering from surgery, managing a serious illness, or caring for a sick family member.
Unlike vacation, medical leave is specifically for health circumstances and may be paid or unpaid depending on employer policy and local law: She took six weeks of medical leave after the accident.
