median barrier

A median barrier is a physical divider separating opposing lanes of traffic on a highway or divided road, designed to prevent head-on collisions.

These barriers may be concrete walls, metal guardrails, or cable systems: The median barrier kept the truck from crossing into oncoming traffic.

Also called a median strip barrier or central reservation barrier (British).
