meandering stream
Curving creek path
A meandering stream is a watercourse that winds in S-shaped curves across a relatively flat landscape, snaking back and forth rather than flowing in a straight line.
The curves form naturally as water erodes the outer banks and deposits sediment on the inner banks: The meandering stream had carved wide loops through the valley floor.
The term is used in geology and hydrology to distinguish such streams from braided or straight channels.
